Bhubaneswar: The selfless services of another nurse from Odisha has earned her recognition at the national level.
Jagatsinghpur’s Khulana Barik (45) has been selected for the Florence Nightingale Award 2021 for her services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Barik works in Gynaecology ward of district headquarters hospital and is in-charge of labour. During COVID-19 pandemic, she was among the frontline health workers who ensured smooth delivery of corona positive pregnant women and also took care of newborns.
Happy with the selection, Barik told media persons that she worked throughout many natural calamities and the pandemic and never takes leaves.
Barik, along with another nurse from Odisha’s Ganjam district Shibani Das will be receiving the award from President Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi. Das works with MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
The Indian Nursing Council, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, grants the Florence Nightingale Award to recognise the contribution of healthcare workers.
