Angul: Police have arrested the principal of a nursing college for allegedly issuing fake admit card to some students in Odisha’s Angul district.
According to sources, 3 students of Sai Sraddha Nursing School at Chhendipada in the district had gone for appearing at the examination last month. But the authorities of the examination centre did not allow on the ground that their admit cards were fake.
When the students took up the matter with their college principal Kailash Chandra Jena, the latter did not listen to them and instead threw them out of the office after scolding them in foul language. Following this, the students filed a complaint with the police and launched a fast unto death in front of the district collector’s office.
They sat on dharna to press their 4-point charter of demands including action against the principal for issuing fake admit cards and abusing them.
On being informed that the students were sitting on dharna with petrol to commit self-immolation, the police went to the spot and seized the petrol from their bags. Later, on the assurance of the deputy collector that their grievances would be looked into, the students called off their agitation.
Notably, 14 of the total 21 students of the nursing college could appear at the examination. The rest 7 students, including the three agitating students, belong to SC/ST communities.
