Bhubaneswar: The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has ordered for closure of a bar, which was being run from the premises of its guest house at Bijipur in the city.
The concerned owner has been asked to close the bar, Cloud 7, and dismantle additional constructions within 15 days of receiving the notice.
The BeMC commissioner’s letter said that the bar violated the provisions of Rule 26 of the Odisha Excise Rule, 2017, as it was running within 500 metres of Khahkote Autonomous University, Berhampur, an educational institute. “You are further directed to intimate this office on the closure of the bar,” it added.
The functioning of the bar in the guest house, which sources claimed was leased out to a private party three years ago, had led to resentment among city denizens. The entrance of the bar faced towards the Kalyan Mandap. The bar was allegedly being run despite a notice from the BeMC, stopping liquor and lottery business in any of its buildings throughout the city two years ago.
