Kolkata: Hosts Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) felicitated Basant Mohanty on Day 3 of the Bengal versus Odisha Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match at Eden Gardens on Thursday.
On Friday, it was the turn of Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) to honour the medium-pacer who played his last match for his state team.
Members of the team management – manager Jugal Kishore Samal, head coach R Srikant, batting coach Rashmi Ranjan Parida and fielding coach Goutam Gopal — presented Basant a commemorative plaque on behalf of OCA for a “phenomenal career and selfless service towards Odisha cricket.”
Basant, started and ended his first-class career with victories against Bengal across a decade and a half, bagged 403 wickets 105 first-class matches at an impressive average of 20.97.
Coincidentally, his first and last wickets were those of Bengal veteran Manoj Tiwary.
Basant captured 23 five-wicket and three 10-wicket hauls in first-class matches.
He also picked up 43 wickets in 31 List A matches, as well as 20 victims in 21 T20 games.
