Kandhamal: In a feel-good story which will lift spirits of elderly people and give them hope, an 81-year-old beat COVID-19 after battling with the virus for 15 days in Kandhamal district.
Gopinath Dakua, from Tala Indragada in Raikia block of Kandhamal district, was initially admitted to Indragada Public Health Centre (PHC) with influenza and cough. Once his condition deteriorated and he developed more serious COVID-19 symptoms, he was shifted to the Temporary Medical Centre (PMC) at Kalinga Model Residential School (KMRS) at Raikia on June 28.
He tested positive for coronavirus and was shifted to the COVID hospital at Phulbani on July 4. His condition improved gradually and he was discharged from the hospital on Monday.
Thanking Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for arranging free COVID treatment of patients like him, Dakua said: “During my treatment at COVID hospital, doctors, nurses and other staff attended sincerely and took good care of me. Good quality food was also provided in the hospital.”
