Lucknow: ODI skipper Mithali Raj created history on Friday by becoming the first Indian woman and the second in the world to score 10,000 runs in international cricket across all formats.
Mithali reached the milestone in the third One-day International (ODI) against South Africa in Lucknow.
The skipper scored 36 runs before being dismissed by Anne Bosch. Mithali has scored 6,974 runs in ODIs and 2,364 runs in T20Is. The 38-year-old right-handed batter has also scored 663 runs from 10 Test matches.
England’s Charlotte Edwards is the only other woman cricketer who has achieved the feat of scoring 10,000 international runs.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar among others congratulated the veteran cricketer, who made her international debut against Ireland in an ODI game back in June 1999.
