Bhubaneswar: Ollywood actress Archita Sahu has extended her support to #RedDotChallenge, a social media campaign created by United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to create awareness about menstrual hygiene.
The campaign has been launched ahead of Menstrual Hygiene Day, which is observed on May 28 worldwide, and is dedicated to spread awareness on the issue of periods and bust the stigma associated with menstruation.
Archita recently posted a picture on social media, showing off a red dot drawn on her palm to break the silence on menstruation and remove all related taboos, and also to encourage safe menstrual hygiene practices. She urged her fans to support the cause.
Archita, who has supported social causes in the past also, is currently involved with Odisha-based start-up ‘Azadi Sanitary Pads,’ who make eco-friendly and skin-friendly sanitary pads that decompose quickly.
UNICEF has partnered with actors, models and social media influencers to discuss periods and the importance of menstrual hygiene.
Anyone interested can post a photograph with a red dot on the palms, tagging UNICEF and mentioning the ‘red dot challenge’. The campaign has drawn huge response on social media, from men, women, young girls and even boys.
