Bhubaneswar: Senior Odia Army officer, Lieutenant General CP Mohanty was appointed as the commander of the Southern Army Command.
Mohanty will take charge from Lt Gen SK Saini on Saturday. Saini will proceed to take charge as the new vice chief of the Army.
At present, Mohanty is serving as the General Officer Commanding of Uttar Bharat area.
Mohanty has operational experience along the borders with Pakistan and China. He has also been active in counter-insurgency operations in Assam. He had led a multinational UN brigade in Congo.
