Bhubaneswar: Noted Odia filmmaker and writer Sanjoy Patnaik has been conferred with the prestigious Chidananda and Supriya Dasgupta Award-2023 for best writing on cinema.
The award was presented to Sanjoy by former Union Minister and ex-diplomat Sashi Tharoor at a function held in Kolkata recently. Sanjoy is the first Odia to receive the honour for his book ‘Of Reels, Romance and Retakes: Social Narratives of Cinema in Odisha.’
The award, instituted by the Chidananda Dasgupta Memorial Trust, was presented for the book as the joint winner along with another book by Rachna Mazumdar. Eminent director and actress Aparna Sen was also present at the award giving ceremony, sources said.
The 200-page book by Sanjoy takes the reader on a fascinating journey into the genesis, evolution and reception of Odia cinema. It seeks to acquaint the reader with the progressive and original quality of Odia cinema, which has gone mostly unnoticed.
Expressing happiness after being honoured, Sanjoy said the award is dedicated to the people of Odisha and Odia cinema enthusiasts.
