Bhubaneswar: Bringing laurels for Odisha, Sumeet Sourav from Koraput district was adjudged the first runners-up at the International Salsa Shine Contest held in Paris recently.
Sumeet was the only Indian to reach the final of the first edition of the competition, which was organised by David Tima.
“It was a great learning experience. The perfect body movement for Salsa comes after years of practice. Getting such appreciation and recognition despite competing with dancers from France, Colombia and Italy was satisfying,” said Sumeet in a telephonic interview from Budapest.
A dancer and instructor, Sumeet has been practising various dance forms for the last 10 years. He has learnt the intricacies of art in Italy, Spain and Portugal and has also conducted several workshops for students.
Based in Delhi, he runs a dance institute ‘The Dance House Project,’ where he imparts training in Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and Latin Contemporary.
With a strong base in Chhau, Ballet, Contemporary, Afro-Cuban and Bollywood dancing styles, he wants to make a mark on every continent.
