Mumbai: Professor Sanjay K Mohanty has been appointed Director of the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai.
He served as Professor and Head of Department of Population and Development at IIPS before his appointment to the prestigious leadership position,
with effect from June 29.
The son of Narendra Prasad Mohanty, Prof. Mohanty hails from Soro in Odisha’s Balasore district.
A distinguished economist and demographer, Prof. Mohanty has over two-and-a-half decades of teaching, research and academic leadership experience.
Mohanty has supervised 22 doctoral scholars and authored over 175 research papers published in leading national and international peer-reviewed journals. Among prestigious journals that his research has appeared in are WHO Bulletin, PLoS Medicine, The Lancet Global Health, Pain, The Milbank Quarterly, Geoscience and Health Policy and Planning.
Prof. Mohanty has successfully completed several nationally and internationally-funded research projects, including a Swiss-supported collaborative project.
His research has influenced public policy in the areas of population dynamics, health financing, ageing, poverty, and sustainable development.
