Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police on Monday arrested Ollywood producer Ajitav Mallik on charges of duping an assistant professor of Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, of Rs 85 lakh on the pretext of selling her a duplex.
According to sources, the victim paid Mallik the amount in multiple instalments for a duplex worth Rs 1 crore at Kolathia in the city in 2020. He, however, went incommunicado thereafter and didn’t sell the property to the woman, who further alleged that she was threatened with dire consequences and also forced to sell off her gold ornaments.
Following which, she lodged a complaint with Khandagiri police against him and is family members, who she claimed are well educated and added that they had duped some other people too and used the money for producing film and opening a restaurant in Hyderabad.
Ajitav had produced 2021 Odia film ‘Arundhati’ starring Elina Priyadarshini and Rajveeer. He also acted in it.
