Bhubaneswar: A number of new films hit the silver screen during the Dussehra festival in different theatres across Odisha and outside. Filmmakers, particularly in Odisha, consider Durga Puja as the most favourable occasion for release their new movies.
However, new Odia film ‘Ram’, which was released in the state on October 20, was unable to be screened at any cinema halls in the western Odisha city of Sambalpur.
It has been alleged that the film featuring actor Arindam Roy could not be released in Sambalpur because of a conspiracy. The Odia film producers’ association suspects that actor Manoj Mishra was instrumental in not getting the movie released in Sambalpur.
Claiming that there is a dispute between actor Jitu Mangaraj and Manoj Mishra, several film producers alleged that the movie failed to release in the western Odisha city because of this conflict between the two actors. It was alleged that Manoj put pressure on cinema hall owners to stall release of the film in western Odisha.
Following complaint in this regard, the association of Odia film producers held a meeting to examine the issue. The producers decided that Manoj would not be given opportunity to act in any cinema in the state for the next two years.
No reaction from Manoj Mishra in this regard was immediately available.
