Google has finally added Odia to the list of languages it can translate. The Mountain View-based company, after four years, on Wednesday added five languages – Kinyarwanda, Odia, Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur to the list.
“Languages without a lot of web content have traditionally been challenging to translate, but through advancements in our machine learning technology, coupled with active involvement of the Google Translate Community, we have added support for five languages: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur,” Isaac Caswell Software Engineer, Google Translate, said in a statement.
The total number of languages that Google Translate supports now is 108, which includes Indian languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Malayalam and Kannada.
Both text and websites can be translated into Odia language now.
The update is being initially rolled out for just one per cent of Google Translate users, and will be slowly added to full Android and iOS users.
Among the new languages, Kinyarwanda is the official language of Rwanda, Tatar is used in Russia and Ukraine, Turkmen is officially used in Turkmenistan and Uyghur is spoken by about 10.4 million people, particularly in China and Turkmenistan.
