Odia IRS Officer Elected Chairman Of WCO’s Enforcement Committee

Brussels: Debi Prasad Dash, an Indian Revenue Services (Customs) officer, has been unanimously elected chairman of Enforcement Committee of World Customs Organization (WCO). The IRS officer, who hails from Odisha, is the first Indian customs officer to be elected to this position.

He was vice-chairman of the committee for the past two years.

WCO is based in Brussels.

A 1985-batch officer, Dash earlier served as the director-general of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and handled affairs relating to anti-smuggling and checking of black money.

He had earlier worked in the UN Security Council, New York, Commonwealth Secretariat, London, and the CBI.

He is also a recipient of the President’s award for his track record of distinguished performance in the world customs sector and a Merit Award from WCO.
