Brussels: Debi Prasad Dash, an Indian Revenue Services (Customs) officer, has been unanimously elected chairman of Enforcement Committee of World Customs Organization (WCO). Th
e IRS officer, who hails from Odisha, is the first Indian customs officer to be elected to this position.
He was vice-chairman of the committee for the past two years.
WCO is based in Brussels.
A 1985-batch officer, Dash earlier served as the director-general of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and handled affairs relating to anti-smuggling and checking of black money.
He had earlier worked in the UN Security Council, New York, Commonwealth Secretariat, London, and the CBI.
He is also a recipient of the President’s award for his track record of distinguished performance in the world customs sector and a Merit Award from WCO.
