Chhattisgarh: Ahead of the first-phase election in Chhattisgarh, the Maoists blew up a mine-protected-vehicle (MPV) near Murdanda camp at Bijapur district on Saturday evening, killing four personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Among those martyred was a jawan from Odisha, Braja Behera. He was a native of Nadua village in Ghasipura block of Keonjhar district.

The incident occurred around 4 pm when the personnel were out on an ‘area domination’ operation, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg told a news agency.

When the MPV carrying six personnel was around one km away from the camp, the ultras triggered a powerful landmine blast, he said.

Reinforcement was rushed to the spot immediately and the two personnel, who sustained serious injuries in the attack, admitted to a local hospital for treatment.

The first-phase polls, scheduled for November 12, will cover 18 constituencies in eight Maoist-affected districts – Bastar, Kanker, Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada, Narayanpur, Kondagaon and Rajnandgaon in the state.
