Balangir: The body of a migrant worker from Odisha’s Balangir district has remained stranded in Kerala for the past four days as the family is unable to bring it due to financial constraints.
The deceased, identified as Balaram Pradhan of Nuagaon village under Agalpur block of Balangir, had been working in Kerala for several years to support his family back home. Recently, after selling paddy at his village, the payment was credited to his bank account in Kerala. He had tra
velled to Kerala 4 days ago to withdraw the money but suddenly fell ill and died there. His sudden death on January 31 has left his family devastated and they are now unable to bring back his body due to lack of funds.
The family has been appealing for help, as the financial burden of transporting the body from Kerala has proven insurmountable. Their grief has been compounded by the helplessness of not being able to perform the last rites in their native village.
Responding to their appeal, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Debaki Sahu visited the bereaved family and assured them of support. She has also approached the District Collector, Superintendent of Police and Labour Officer, seeking urgent intervention to facilitate the return of Balaram’s body. The administration is now under pressure to act swiftly and ensure that the family can conduct the funeral rites with dignity.
