Bhubaneswar: Popular Odia music composer Abhijit Majumdar, who is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar in a comatose state, was moved out of the ICU on Thursday.
According to a medical update, Abhijit is in an isolation room in the medicine ward of the hospital. He was taken off ventilator support a couple of days back.
“His neurological condition is status quo, comatose with GCS- E2, VT, M2-3. His repeat MRI brain done on 18″ September, reveals no improvement from previous radiological findings. Percutaneous tracheostomy was done on September 9 in view of prolonged mechanical ventilation. His blood stream infection and pneumonia
resolved. Now, he is out of ventilator support for more than 48 hours. His renal function, and liver function tests are normal. His Electrolytes are corrected. His vitals are stable at present,” it said.
He is currently on physiotherapy and other supportive management, it added.
The 54-year-old music composer was admitted to AIIMS emergency at 10 am on September 4 from a private hospital in Cuttack due to a sharp drop in sodium levels and a comatose state. He was later shifted to the medical ICU under the supervision of ICU and ECMO specialist at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, Srikant Behera.
Majumdar has multiple comorbid conditions, including hypertension, hypothyroidism, and chronic liver disease. The medical evaluation at AIIMS revealed that he was suffering from Osmotic Demyelination Syndrome (both pontine and extrapontine), bilateral pneumonia, bloodstream infection due to Acinetobacter (MDRO), dyselectrolytemia, and nutritional deficiencies.
Majumdar, who composed music for over 700 songs across Odia and Sambalpuri films and albums, enjoys a massive fan following across the state. His notable works include ‘Love Story’, ‘Sister Sridevi’, ‘Golmaal Love’, ‘Sundargarh Ra Salman Khan’, and ‘Sriman Surdas’.
