Bhubaneswar: Odia producer Akshay Kumar Parija’s short film ‘Paika Bidroha’ (Paika Rebellion) has won the Special Jury Award at the 9th Mumbai International Short Film Festival this year.
The film is based on the Paika rebellion, which took place in Odisha in 1817. It was an armed rebellion led by Paika leader Buxi Jagabandhu against the then British East India Company’s rule.
Made under the banner of Akshay Parija Productions, ‘Paika Bidroha’ stars Manoj Mishra as Jayee Rajaguru and Samaresh Routray as Buxi Jagabandhu.
Nischay Rout and Anuj Tyagi have directed the film.
The story, screenplay, and dialogues are written by Hara Prasad Dash. The costumes of this periodic film were designed by the film’s co-producer, Barnali Rath.
In 2018, this short film had won four State Film Awards for Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and the Best Film by Jury.
