Balasore: Two persons were arrested for allegedly duping aspiring students to the tune of Rs 3.5 crore in Odisha’s Balasore district on the pretext of providing admission in medical and engineering colleges.
While busting the racket, Balasore police found that the two accused persons were cheating students by promising to get admission in various medical colleges and engineering colleges within and outside Odisha.
Of the two accused, one was operating from Kolkata and another was based in Bhubaneswar. They were cheating the students by adopting innovative methods, police said.
The two accused were identified as Sunil Samantray and Sumit Biswal of Jajpur district. They have been caught by the cyber police during investigation of a complaint of duping one person of Rs 21 lakh in Khantapada area of Balasore.
Giving details, Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) Sagarika Nath said the racket was busted during investigation of a complaint lodged with the cyber police station.
During the investigation, the cyber police found involvement of the two in the racket. They had opened a firm called Sai Academy Consultancy in Bhubaneswar and cheated students and their parents by offering them seats in different medical and engineering colleges.
