Jajpur: Three minors, including a diploma engineering student, were arrested after a video, purportedly showing a 12-year-old girl being sexually assaulted, went viral on social media. The incident allegedly occurred at Marzitapur within Jenapur police limits in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Friday.
The accused are in the age group of 14-17 and of the same village.
According to sources, the accused kept an eye on the minor girl and later allegedly raped her as well as recorded the act on a mobile phone. They also threatened to make the video viral if she disclosed the matter to anyone.
“The accused started blackmailing the girl using the video clip and threatened to make it public if she did not pay Rs 20,000. When she refused, they posted the video on social media platforms last week,” Jenapur IIC Umakanta Nayak told media.
The matter came to light after the girl’s father lodged a complaint against the three boys at Jenapur police station on Thursday. His relatives had informed him after they came across the video on social media.
A case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on the basis of his complaint and the accused were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Saturday, he added.
