Kendrapada: Odisha DGP Abhay on Saturday praised Patkura police of Kendrapada district for arresting Akhaya Jena, who was on the run for nearly four decades after allegedly committing a dacoity.
A non-bailable warrant was pending against him in a 1984 dacoity case, which took place at Jajpur road. He was a teenager then and had fled to evade arrest.
Acting on a tip-off that Jena had returned home recently, police raided Palasudha village under Patkura police limits on Thursday night and nabbed the 56-year-old man.

Notably, a case was registered in this connection at Jajpur Road police station and Jena was later declared an absconder by the court.
The arrest was part of a special drive launched by Odisha Police on March 7 to execute all pending non-bailable warrant (NBW).
Two murder accused were arrested in Ganjam district on Wednesday and Tuesday after 20 and 30 years of the crime.
