Odisha: 6 Of Family, Including Juvenile, Sentenced To Life In 2022 Murder Case

Nabarangpur: Additional Sessions Judge, Nabarangpur, Bishnu Prasad Mishra on Wednesday sentenced six members of a family, including a juvenile, to life imprisonment in the brutal murder of Dambaru Pujari on August 9, 2022.

Considering the severity of the crime, the juvenile justice board of Nabarangpur had ordered that the juvenile be treated as an adult and tried.

On August 9, 2022, Dambaru Pujari and his family were attacked by the accused persons, wielding swords, axes, and iron bars, over a longstanding feud while plucking beans in their field. During the assault, Dambaru’s brother, Padlam Pujari, sustained severe leg fractures after being struck by a tractor, and Dambaru was repeatedly stabbed, leaving him critically injured. He succumbed on August 16.

The accused—Ananta Pujari (50), Siba Sankar Pujari (29), Chandan Pujari (24), Dumar Pujari (73), and Dalimba Pujari (45), all from Baramasi village, Nabarangpur district—were charged under IPC sections 147, 148, 341, 447, 323, 325, 307, 302, and 149.

Following a detailed investigation and trial, the court found the accused guilty of murder. Along with life imprisonment under Section 302/149 IPC, they have been fined Rs 10,000 each.

All those convicted have been behind bars since August 10, 2022.
