Dhenkanal: Kamakshyanagar police on Sunday arrested six-member of a notorious looter’s gang in Odisha’s Dhenkanal and seized stolen goods worth worth Rs 50 lakh.
The gang member have been identified as Bijay Parida (30), Biras Behera (29), Chikun Behera (32), Satyanarayan Behera (24), Kahnu Naik (32), and Prakash Naik (30). All are residents of Kamakhyanagar, Parjang, and Kankadahad areas.
According to police sources, the gang had been targeting schools, panchayat offices and private residences with no security system in Angul and Dhenkanal districts since 2022 and decamping with midday meal rice, oil, LED TVs, fans, inverters, batteries, music systems, computers, laptops, scooters, water filters, other electronic gadgets and even biscuits. They used gas cutters to break into the schools and panchayat offices.
They were nabbed by a special police team led by Kamakshyanagar SDPO Snehasis Sahu.
“A total of 64 cases were registered against the gang in Parajang, Kamakshyanagar, Kankadahad Tumusingha and Rasola police stations. A week ago, they had stolen computers, inverters, and other belongings from Kankadahad panchayat office. A probe was launched on basis of a complaint lodged by panchayat officials and Bijay was apprehended in the Parjang area,” said Dhenkanal SP Sandeep Sampad Madkar.
He confessed to the crimes and identified his five accomplices, who were arrested during subsequent raids, he added.
