Odisha Actor-MP Anubhav Mohanty Once Again Slams Media Trial; Watch His Earlier Interview

Bhubaneswar: Ollywood superstar-turned-MP Anubhav Mohanty, who is fighting a divorce case against wife Varsha Priyadarshini and who has often said that he has been a victim of media trial, has once again slammed so-called media trials.

“The Worst Enemies of Our #MotherIndia today……….! With due respect to many media houses, I just felt that it’s needed to be highlighted for some of them, “Newsrooms aren’t Courtrooms.”!’ the actor tweeted on Friday as he called for strict legal action against media trials and ban on media trials.

Anubhav has not referred to any particular case but earlier, during a series of interviews to Odisha Bytes, he himself said that he was a victim of media trial.

Anubhav’s latest tweet on media trial comes at a time when there is excessive attention of the local media in Odisha on the issue involving Ollywood actor Babushaan, his wife Trupti and actress Prakruti Mishra.

Speaking at an event in Ranchi recently, Chief Justice of India N V Ramana too criticised electronic and social media, whose “kangaroo courts” and “agenda-driven debates” make it difficult even for experienced judges to decide issues.

“Doing justice is not an easy responsibility. It is becoming increasingly challenging with each passing day. At times, there are also concerted campaigns in the media, particularly on social media, against judges. Another aspect which affects the fair functioning and independence of the judiciary is the rising number of media trials,” CJI Ramana said.

“New media tools have enormous amplifying ability but appear incapable of distinguishing between the right and the wrong, the good and the bad and the real and the fake. Media trials cannot be a guiding factor in deciding cases. Of late, we see the media running kangaroo courts, at times on issues even experienced judges find difficult to decide. Ill-informed and agenda-driven debates on issues involving justice delivery are proving detrimental to the health of democracy,” he said.
