Bhawanipatna: Even as the Maoists called bandh in 7 districts, ADG (Operations) Amitabh Thakur held a high-level meeting to take stock of the activities of Left wing extremists at Bhawanipatna in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Friday.
Thakur held the meeting with Intelligence Director Sanjiv Panda, DIG Rajesh Pandit, DIG of CRPF, Kalahandi SP and IICs of all police stations in the district.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, the ADG said the steps to be taken to control the Maoists who have scaled up their activities in the district recently were discussed at the meeting. The top police officials also hammered out strategies to bring down the Maoist menace, he added.
Three Maoists were gunned down in an exchange of fire with the police near Tapareng-Ludengarh reserve forest under M Rampur police station in the district on Tuesday. A Deputy Superintendent of Police (SDP) also sustained bullet injury in the gunbattle.

Earlier on the day, the Maoists called for bandh in support of their 12-point charter of demands in 7 districts including Kalahandi on May 15.
