Bhubaneswar: The death of Paralakhemundi Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra in a mysterious fire is getting murkier with fresh twists adding to the case every day.
Even as Crime Branch is assisting the Odisha Police to unravel the truth behind his death, an audio clip of a purported conversation between Soumya and his wife Bidyabharti Panda and a handwritten note by the latter have come to the fore.
In an audio clip, Bidyabharti can be heard questioning Soumya about his alleged extramarital affair and the latter refusing to part with his mobile phone. She says that she could prove his ‘relationship’ with someone on getting access to his phone. Soumya instead tells her that he can give her a phone number but not the phone.
On the other hand, Bidyabharti’s anger for her husband finds expression in the handwritten note, which is part of a diary seized by police from the ACF’s residence in Paralakhemundi.
Bidyabharti said that she had penned her feelings in the diary when upset and it was not to criticise or defame anyone.
“I had written it to express my sorrow after coming to know about his extramarital affair. There is no connection between this note and his death,” she told the media.
On July 12 night, the ACF was rescued from his official quarters in Paralakhemundi under mysterious circumstances with 90 per cent burns and succumbed a day later.
