Bhubaneswar: Taking note of the complete lockdown in Odisha to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, the All Odisha Aided College (488 category) Teachers and Employees Association on Tuesday announced financial assistance to the unorganised occupational groups.

In a release, general secretary of the Association Priya Ranjan Rath said they will donate the money to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) through the commissioner-cum-secretary Higher Education and the Higher Education Minister by the end of April.

This was decided during a mobile conference with the members of the Association, he added.

Due to the social distancing measures announced by the state government to avoid large gatherings, the livelihood of the labourers of the unorganised occupational groups is at stake.

The unorganised occupational groups include small and marginal farmers, landless agricultural labourers, sharecroppers, fishermen, those engaged in animal husbandry, beedi rolling, labelling and packing, building and construction workers, leather workers, weavers, artisans, salt workers, workers in brick kilns and stone.
