Bhubaneswar: Album actress Jasmin Majhi died while being treated at a hospital in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Sunday.
Odisha girl Jasmin was undergoing treatment after reportedly consuming poison in a suicide attempt two days ago.
The 22-year-old Jasmin, from Ghuchapali village under Khaprakhol police limits in Balangir district, was admitted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in Sambalpur in a critical condition on September 25.
Jasmin, who was also a popular kirtan singer, acted in several Sambalpuri music albums.
Incidentally, Prem Meher (25), a popular young dancer and artist also Balagir district’s Tambipadar village under Khaprakhol police limits, died three days ago after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Prem, the only son of Sadhu Meher and Ahilya Meher, performed in several Sambalpuri albums and earned was popular among audiences in western Odisha.
Following the demise of Jasmin, there have been speculation over the circumstances surrounding the her and Prem’s deaths. There has also been talk of a possible relationship which could have developed between the two young artistes, though it was not independently established.
Local people have called for an impartial inquiry into the two deaths.
