Bhubaneswar: The central government has allocated Rs 218 crore under the 15th Finance Commission grant for online learning and the development of professional courses in regional languages for higher education in Odisha.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Monday that under the 15th Finance Commission, a grant of Rs 6,143 crore has been allocated for online learning and development of professional courses in regional languages for higher education in the country.
“₹6,143 crore has been recommended as grant by the 15th Finance Commission for the development of professional courses in regional languages and promotion of online education,” Pradhan tweeted.
The Centre has already initiated several projects for the promotion of online education through the development of different digital tools.
The government has also made provision of devices for 25 lakh students from socially and economically weaker sections of the society, the education minister said.
In the 2020-21 financial year, the Centre has already spent Rs 14.75 crore for online teaching. As many as 194 Adarsh degree colleges for educationally backward districts have been sanctioned by the Ministry.
