Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: Odisha occupies the 11th spot in the country in terms of active COVID cases. It is among the 11 states with over 50,000 cases with Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala topping the list with figures of more than 3 lakh, the Union Health Ministry informed on Thursday.
India has a total of 22,02,472 active cases with a positivity rate of 17.7 per cent during the last one week.
Odisha contributes to 2.93 per cent of total active cases in the country. There has been a drop of 13,551 in the active cases in the last seven days.
While the data shared by the ministry has put the active cases in Odisha as on January 27 at 64,487, the tally as per the state dashboard had touched 70,327 after 5,901 more people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. It came down to 59,170 after 11157 were cured of the infection on Thursday evening.
Odisha had 74,512 active cases on Wednesday morning and dropped to 64,434 by the evening when the health department tweeted about 10,078 recoveries.
Notably, the state has been reporting less than 10,000 new infections over a week now and the daily caseload dropped below 6,000 again on Thursday when 5,901 people were found infected. The test positivity rate also dropped below 10 per cent and stood at 9.33 per cent.
Wednesday had seen a spike with 7426 people testing positive for COVID-19, a rise of 1535 cases as compared to Tuesday’s figures when 5,891 people had tested positive for the virus. The state saw 7,291 cases on Monday, 8,520 cases on Sunday, 8,845 cases on Saturday, and 9,833 cases on Friday.
The ministry further said that Omicron’s sub-variant BA.2 is more prevalent in India now.
