New Delhi: Odisha is second among all states in terms of delivering Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) to different parts of the country through Oxygen Express being run by Indian Railways.
Odisha has till date delivered 7102 MT of LMO, just behind Jharkhand (8025 MT) and ahead of Gujarat (6384 MT).
Among other states to have provided LMO to treat serious hospitalized COVID patients are West Bengal (1360 MT), Maharashtra (488 MT), Chhattisgarh (218 MT) and Andhra Pradesh (164 MT).
Overall, Indian Railways has delivered 23741 MT of LMO in 1405 tankers to various states across the country, with 344 Oxygen Expresses having completed their journey so far.
As for Odisha, LMO has been picked up from Rourkela and Angul.
Oxygen Expresses were first rolled out on April 24, from Maharashtra, to tackle the acute shortage of medical oxygen in the country amid the second wave of COVID-19, pandemic.
Meant to deliver as much LMO as possible in the shortest time possible to requesting states, Oxygen Expresses have so far reached out to 39 cities across 15 states — Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Telangana, Punjab, Kerala, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Assam.
