Odisha Approves Rs 7550 Cr Antyodaya Gruha Yojana For 2.25 Lakh Houses

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha cabinet has approved a proposal to implement Antyodaya Gruha Yojana, a scheme aimed at providing affordable housing to the economically weaker sections of society.

The Cabinet at its meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday approved implementation of the scheme to construct 2.25 lakh houses over the next three years, with an investment of Rs 7,550 crore.

The Chief Minister told reporters on Saturday that beneficiaries will receive financial assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh to construct houses under the scheme. This apart, those who complete their houses within four months will be eligible for a bonus of Rs 20,000, while those who finish within six months will receive Rs 10,000.

The definition of a pucca house has been simplified under the scheme, with asbestos, tin, and tile-roofed houses being considered as kuccha houses. Only houses with RCC roofs and walls, with cement used as a binding agent, will be considered as pucca houses.

As the definition of a family has also been simplified under the scheme, a family will now include the husband, wife, dependent parents, and children. This will enable newly formed families to benefit from the scheme.
