Bhubaneswar: Bracing up for the Lok Sabha and Odisha Assembly elections, Congress has made arrangements for ticket aspirants to apply online with detailed information.
This was stated by Congress in-charge for Odisha Ajoy Kumar after a party meeting in Bhubaneswar. The aim is to stop ticket aspirants from resorting to lobbying.
Party leaders and others intending to contest the elections as Congress candidates can apply online giving all the required details for consideration by the party, Kumar told reporters.
Apart from Kumar, the meeting was attended among others by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Pattanayak and AICC Screening Committee chairman Madhusudan Mistry, sources said
The state party unit has launched the process for distribution of tickets for the upcoming polls after the AICC announced screening committees for recommending party candidates for the elections.
Kumar said the link for applying online will be shared on all social media platforms soon and the entire process would be conducted in a transparent manner. “Anybody who aspire to contest the elections from Congress party can apply online. A survey team will be engaged to check the background of the applicants. Complete transparency will be maintained during the process,” he said.
The report of the team will be sent to the Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) that will forward the report with all data to the screening committee after scrutiny. The tickets will be given to the deserving candidates following the recommendation of the panel, he said ruling out possibility of party preference or lobby in the selection process.
Stating that anyone can apply for the party tickets, Kumar said there is no restriction or criteria for the application.
