Bhubaneswar: Amid uproarious scenes, the question hour was disrupted in the Odisha Assembly on Wednesday as BJP MLAs created ruckus alleging police excesses during its Yuva Morcha rally in Bhubaneswar.

As soon as the House assembled for the day, BJP legislators were on their feet to protest alleged police action against the party’s youth wing activists when they staged a demonstration in the state capital on Tuesday.

The BJP lawmakers rushed to the well of the House holding posters and created a pandemonium. They demanded a statement from the government regarding the incident.

Amid uproar, proceedings during the question hour were disrupted as it became difficult to conduct business in the House.

As pandemonium continued, Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha adjourned the House till 11.30 am.

Speaking to reporters outside the House, BJP chief whip Mohan Majhi alleged that the Yuva Morcha activists were beaten up by police personnel during their rally in a planned way. Even ruling BJD ‘goons’ joined the police in attacking BJP activists, he claimed.

However, the police made false claim that they were attacked by the demonstrators, he alleged.

“We raised the issue in the Assembly. We want the Home Minister to give a clarification on what happened yesterday,” the senior BJP lawmaker said.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders and workers also staged a protest in front of the Capital Police Station in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night alleging police excesses during their protest at Lower PMG Square in the city.

The saffron party has accused the police of thrashing many of their workers leaving them seriously injured during their protest against Naba Das murder case and alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the State.

Several women party workers were also misbehaved by police during the protest, the BJP alleged.
