Bhubaneswar: The winter session of the Odisha Assembly was on Friday adjourned sine die nearly a month ahead of its schedule.
The 33-day session, which had commenced on November 24, was scheduled to continue till December 31.
The House functioned for 8 working days instead of 33. The first supplementary budget for the current fiscal was tabled in the House on the opening day on November 24 and passed on November 30.
Since the very beginning of the session, the House was rocked by a host of issues including the honeytrap racket case involving Archana Nag and issues relating to the plight of farmers.
As soon as the House assembled for the day in the morning, uproarious scenes were witnessed with BJP members creating a ruckus over the absence of several ministers including Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The BJP members rushed to the Speaker’s podium and started sloganeering, raising the issue of black marketing of fertilizers.
Amid pandemonium, Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha had adjourned the House till 11.30 am.
While the BJP accused CM Naveen and the Ministers of destroying the dignity of the Assembly by remaining absent from the House, the Congress launched a scathing attack on both the ruling BJD and the centre.
However, the Chief Minister, who was away in Padampur for campaigning for the Assembly bypoll, went to the House on his return. He was present when the Assembly was adjourned sine die.
