Odisha Assembly Adjourned Till 4 PM Amid Uproar Over Paddy Procurement



Bhubaneswar: Amid uproarious scenes, the Odisha Assembly was adjourned till 4 pm on Wednesday after opposition members created ruckus alleging mismanagement in paddy procurement in the state.

As soon as the House assembled on the second day of the ongoing Budget Session, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress legislators were up on their feet raising slogans against the government, accusing it of failing to manage procurement of paddy mandis across the state.

banners, the opposition MLAs trooped into the well of the House. They also held bundles of paddy to symbolically highlight farmers’ issues. Opposition members also placed paddy on the Assembly reporters’ table to register their protest.

The opposition members demanded immediate intervention of the State Government to address procurement delays and alleged irregularities affecting farmers.

Despite repeated appeals by Speaker Surama Padhy to maintain order, pandemonium persisted in the House amid sloganeering.

As noisy scenes prevailed, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House till 11.30 am.
Similar scenes were witnessed when the House reassembled. Unable to conduct business, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings till 4 pm.

As per the list of business scheduled for the day, a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Budget Address was to begin.
