Odisha Assembly Adjourned Twice Over Farmers’ Issues

Bhubaneswar: The budget session of the Odisha Assembly on Wednesday was adjourned twice for the second consecutive day due to the uproar by the opposition Congress and BJP members.

As soon as the House assembled for the day, the members condoled the death of senior BJD leader and Aska MP Ladu Kishore Swain who passed away in Apollo Hospitals here in the early morning.

The commotion began later when the Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat announced the commencement of the question hour. At this, the Congress and BJP members rushed to the well of the house and urged the Speaker to cancel the question hour and initiate a debate on the issues of the farmers.

Unable to conduct the house proceedings, the Speaker adjourned the house for an hour till 11.30 am. But the bedlam continued to prevail during the zero hour at 11.30 am, the Speaker again adjourned the house till 3 pm.

As the opposition is in no mood to relent, it is unlikely that the House will be able to conduct its business later in the day.
