Bhubaneswar: Following the notification by the Election Commission of India for Presidential election, the Odisha Assembly has finalised the place where the MLAs would cast their votes.
The ECI has extended its approval for voting in the Presidential poll in chamber number 54 in the Assembly building. The polling is scheduled to be held from 10 am to 5 pm on July 18.
The Commission, in its notification, has scheduled the last date for filing the nomination papers on June 29, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is July 2. It has also finalised the places in all the states where the polling would be conducted.
The members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha can cast their votes in Sansad Bhawan in New Delhi. In case of unavoidable circumstances, the MPs can participate in the polling in any state, Delhi and Puducherry. But they have to apply to the Election Commission in this regard 10 days before the election.
Neither ruling BJP at the Centre nor any opposition party has announced the names of their candidates for Presidential election till date. The Commission has made the arrangements in view of the fact that if no consensus candidate for the post emerges, it would lead to an election.
