Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly proceedings were paralysed for the fourth day on Friday as opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress members created ruckus over MMDR Amendment Act, 2026, and the school textbook errors.
As soon as the House assembled for the day, the opposition legislators were on their feet. Amid noisy scenes, they stormed the well of the House, raising slogans over the two issues and. As a result, normal business could not be conducted.
As uproarious scenes continued, Deputy Speaker Bhabani Shankar Bhoi adjourned the House till 4 pm, barely four minutes after the commencement of question hour.
The disruption began soon after the question hour began. As School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond stood up to reply to a question, opposition members trooped the well and raised slogans.
Besides demanding repeal of the MMDR Amendment Act, BJD members protested over errors in school textbooks and demanded the resignation of Gond, holding him responsible for the controversy. Congress members raised the issue of the MMDR Amendment Act, 2026, and demanded that the legislation not be implemented in Odisha.
Despite repeated appeals from the Deputy Speaker to allow the House to function, the opposition members continued their sloganeering. With the din showing no signs of abating, the Deputy Speaker eventually adjourned the House till 4 pm.
