Bhubaneswar: The Winter Session of Odisha Assembly, which commenced on Thursday, was adjourned by Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha till 5 pm after the House condoled the death of two former ministers, the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, and three former members.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik tabled the condolence motion as a mark of respect in the memory of the departed members, including former Ministers Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha, Golak Bihari Nayak, and Opposition Deputy leader Bishnu Charan Sethi.
The House will resume at 5 pm with the presentation of the supplementary budget for the current financial year, sources said.
It is pertinent to mention here that the BJD legislature party meeting under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was held in chamber no. 54 at 10.30 am on Thursday.
“The party chief has asked all the party members to remain present in the House and take part in the discussions. We will be raising the issue of central neglect pertaining to Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), Railway, MSP for paddy procurement and National Highways,” BJD leader Pramila Mallik told the media.
The winter session is being held without any COVID restrictions for 33 working days with 5 no-meeting days. As per the schedule, the private members’ business (Bills & Resolutions) will be tabled on November 25 and December 9, 16, 23, 28, and 30.
The demands for grants for the year will be tabled on November 30 and December 1. The Appropriation Bill on the first supplementary statement of expenditure for the year 2022-23 will be presented on December 2.

Notably, the journalists are allowed into the press gallery of the House to cover the daily business of the session after two years of COVID restrictions.
