Bhubaneswar: Odisha Bigyan Academy, with the approval of the Science & Technology department, on Thursday announced different awards for 16 scientists under five categories.
Prof Khirod Kumar Jena of School of Biotechnology under KIIT University has been selected for the ‘Biju Patnaik Award’ for Scientific Excellence.
Dr Sanghamitra Samantray, senior scientist of ICAR-NRRI at Cuttack, has been selected for ‘Samanta Chandrasekhar Award’ in the category of Life Science. Prof Vedangdas Mohanty of NISER at Jatni for Physical Science and Prof Subrat Kumar Panda of NIT, Rourkela for Engineering and Technology have also been selected for the award. Besides, the award will be conferred on Prof Pinaki Dutta of PGIMER, Chandigarh in Life Sciences.
Similarly, Dr Sarita Sekhar Pattnaik, assistant professor, SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack; Dr Apramita Chand, assistant professor, Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar and Prof Rajesh Kumar Prusty of NIT, Rourkela have been selected for Odisha Young Scientist award.
This award in the category of scientists working outside Odisha will be presented to Dr Sanjay Kumar Panda, assistant professor, NIT, Warangal.
Rabindranath Majhi and Tulasi Swain have been selected in the General and Children categories respectively for Pranakrushna Parija Popular Science Book Award.
Dr Raja Kishore Paramguru, Dr Subhransu Sekhar Mohapatra, Prof Krushna Chandra Mohanty, Prof DR Bhima Rao and Prof Malay Kumar Mishra will also be felicitated at a state-level function to be held soon.
