Nabarangpur: Alleging police inaction in a case of rape and murder of minor girl in Nabarangpur, the district BJD unit has called for a 12-hour bandh on September 26.
Earlier, the BJD observed 6-hour bandh in Nabarangpur demanding arrest of the accused person(s) and disclosure of the postmortem report. They also sought Rs 20 lakh compensation for the victim’s family.
The 10-year-old girl, who hailed from Kantagaon panchayat, had gone out to relieve herself in the evening hours of September 17 (Tuesday). However, she did not return home, said sources.
On Monday, Leader of Opposition Party (LOP) in Odisha Assembly and BJD president Naveen Patnaik slammed the state government for ‘deteriorating law and order and rising cases of crime against women’.
While addressing elected representatives of Nabarangpur district who had come to Bhubaneswar for meeting the party supremo to apprise him of alleged police inaction in this case, Naveen urged people to unite and devote lives and time for welfare of people.
“During my tenure as CM our government devised and implemented scores of development projects and ensured that safety and security of people of Odisha. Work together unitedly, and bring the plight of common people to notice of all. We will surely return to power and deliver good governance as we always did,” the LOP added.
A delegation from Nabarangpur comprising senior leaders such as Ramesh Majhi, Manohar Randhari, Pradeep Majhi, Sadashiv Pradhani, and Manjula Majhi, met party supremo and discussed an array of issues pertaining to the district.
On the occasion, senior BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra said that the regional party will strengthen itself on organisational front and fight against the BJP government on several fronts in Odisha.
