Bhubaneswar: The BJP on Sunday launched a letter campaign against chief minister Naveen Patnaik over increasing cases of crime against women.
Accompanied by hundreds of party leaders and workers, state general secretary of BJP Lekhashree Samantsinghara dropped the letters addressed to the chief minister on the issue at Bhubaneswar railway station. The BJP workers also went to the post offices across the state to post the letters.
Speaking on the occasion, Lekhashree said women are not safe under the BJD rule. On an average, four women are being raped and six kidnapped in the state everyday, she added.
The chief minister’s double standard on the matter is evident from his inaction in Pari death case, Mahanga murder case, ACF Soumyaranjan Mohapatra death case and Mamita Meher murder case, while he had demanded the scalp of then chief minister JB Patnaik in Anjana Mishra rape case, she added.
The BJP leaders in Cuttack also sent their letters to the chief minister from Buxi Bazaar post office. “The chief minister is protecting Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra in Mamita Meher murder case. The party will continue its agitation till Mishra is removed from his post,” said Cuttack City BJP president Lalatendu Badu.
