Bhubaneswar: Police on Wednesday booked BJP leader Upasna Mohapatra and 30 others for allegedly assaulting a tenant at Nayapalli the previous evening.
“The complainant, Pranab Ray, has alleged that Upasna along with 30 to 40 persons barged into their house, manhandled them, stole some cash and valuables, and asked him to vacate the property,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash.
Upasna is the daughter of three-time MLA and late Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra. She has been accused of hiring goons to vacate the house.
Owner of a construction company, Ray had set up his office and spent Rs 48 lakh towards the interior design of the house that he had taken on rent at Nayapalli-3 in the city from Bijay Nayak. Though Nayak had initially expressed his willingness to sell his house to him, he executed the deal with Upasna’s husband Subhransu Sekhar Biswal instead, police sources said.
