Bargarh: Police and CRPF personnel here on Monday halted the vehicle of BJP MP from Balasore Pratap Sarangi and thoroughly checked his vehicle while he was on his way to Padampur from Patnagarh in Odisha’s Bargarh district.
He has been campaigning in Padmanpur, where bypoll is scheduled for December 5, for BJP candidate Pradip Purohit.
The MP cooperated with the police, whom he asked to look below the seats, where gold is often kept and smuggled. He also questioned how illegal money evade their scanner before the elections. Except for some clothes, the cops found nothing in his vehicle, sources said.
Notably, the MP had to undergo similar frisking during the recently held Dhamnagar bypoll.
Addressing a presser, BJP leader Prithviraj Harichandan, however, said that his party members are unnecessarily being harassed by cops while the vehicles of the ruling BJD go unchecked.
