Bhubaneswar: Odisha unit of BJP has questioned why BJD’s Remuna MLA, who was expelled by the party on Thursday, has not been arrested despite his involvement in embezzlement of crores of rupees from the fund for the farmers came to light in Lokayukta report.

Mukesh Mahaling, BJP MLA from Loisingha in Balangir district, in a tweet on Thursday, said the Vigilance investigation had exposed the embezzlement of the government funds for the farmers by Sudhansu Sekhar Parida, BJD MLA from Remuna.

“The embezzlement amounting to more than Rs 300 crore was confirmed in the Lokayukta report. But the government has not initiated any step for his arrest even as the fund was siphoned between 2017 and 2020. While the farmers suffer for the MLA’s deeds, the government has remained silent on the matter till date,” Mahaling said.

Stating that the people of the state have stopped believing in the clean image of chief minister Naveen Patnaik, the BJP MLA alleged that criminal cases were pending against 40 MLAs of the BJD. When will the ruling party take action against them, he asked.

Alleging that the media houses, which raise their voice against undemocratic process of Odisha government, are embroiled in false cases, Mahaling said it has become a recurring affair for the last few years.

It may be noted that BJD president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik expelled Khandapada MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik and Remuna MLA from the party for alleged ‘anti-people’ activities earlier in the day.
