Bhubaneswar: Odisha BJP will elect a new president in January 2025, the state in-charge of the saffron party Vijaypal Singh Tomar informed on Thursday.
Speaking to the media, he said that election to the post of state BJP chief will be held after polls at the district levels. “Organisational elections have already started, and booth committees have been been formed. Mandal elections are currently underway. It will be followed by polls at district levels. The election for party president will be held in the first week of January,” he said.
He further stated that BJP is a democratic party. “The president will be elected through democratic means. A normal worker can become president,” he added.
Manmohan Samal is the current president of BJP in Odisha. He was credited for the party’s phenomenal performance in the twin elections, leading to the formation of BJP’s maiden government in the state.
The party in a huge leap won 78 of the 147 seats in the assembly, ending Naveen Patnaik’s 24-year tenure as Chief Minister. It also secured an unprecedented 20 out of 21 Lok Sabha seats.
