Bhubaneswar: Gearing up for the selection of a new president for the party’s Odisha unit, top leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held an important meeting in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
According to party sources, BJP’s national general secretary Tarun Chugh is among those present at the crucial meeting being held at the state party headquarters in the state capital.
The meeting is also being attended by BJP’s Odisha unit president Manmohan Samal, state party in-charge Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, state general secretary Manas Mohanty, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari and former state BJP president Samir Mohanty.
While Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida also joined the meeting, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is likely to participate in the deliberations later, sources said.
The senior leaders are stated to be holding discussion on the selection of a new state party chief and appointments to various boards and corporations of state public sector undertakings.
Speaking to reporters, Tomar said that the new state unit president will be announced by the end of this month. BJP’s national returning officer K Laxman will take the final call, he said, adding that Sanjay Jaiswal has been entrusted the task of holding election for the post of party’s Odisha unit president.
A thorough discussion is being held to decide the date for holding the election and visit of the election authorities, said Tomar.
Regarding appointments to different boards and corporations, Suresh Pujari said the exercise will be done by the end of March.
Stating that suitable and capable persons would be selected for the posts of chairpersons of different boards and corporations, the Minister said the entire process would be completed by the end of this month.
